All he said was that his fiancée "doesn't vibe" with my partner. Apparently, she thinks he's too quiet and that he's "judging her," which is ridiculous because he's just shy around new people.

So my brother is getting married in a few months, and originally, both me and my partner were invited. We've been together for five years and are practically inseparable. However, a couple of weeks ago, my brother called me and said my partner was no longer welcome because his fiancée is uncomfortable around him.

For context, my partner is very introverted and barely interacts with my brother's fiancée. They've met maybe three or four times and exchanged polite. small talk, so I don't understand what the issue could possibly be. When I asked for a reason, my brother got defensive and said it wasn't up for discussion. He then said I should respect his fiancée's wishes because it's their wedding.

I told him I wouldn't come if my partner wasn't allowed, and now my family is calling me selfish and accusing me of creating drama. My mom even suggested I just "let it go for one day" to keep the peace. But to me, it feels like a huge slap in the face to exclude someone who's been a part of my life for so long without a valid reason.

elguapo1996. 1d To rephrase a bit - Tell him you respect his decision to support his fiancés wishes, but he has to respect your decision to support your own fiancé in your decision not to attend. Put it on the brother. 2 ✩ 1.5k

LunaGemSpark • 1d Yup!! OP's brother prioritized his fiancée's unfounded discomfort over his sibling's feelings and the importance of their long-term relationship. Yikes. D û 272 ♡

Blazing Sunflowerland • 1d Is it even the fiance? We don't know. The brother may not want the partner and uses their fiance as the excuse. No matter who wants it, you don't need to attend. 45

Du-Lock 1d This is really it. If the brother "can't let it go for one day" and can't even explain why, he isn't owed OP's grace either. Д 56

Ballas333 1d NTA. It's really weird how defensive they're getting about this. I say if they actually had good reasons then they would have told you. "Not Vibing" is such a weird reason to not invite a siblings partner. If there were reasons for the vibes being off, then I'd get it, but just vibes is insufficient. I also hate when family gangs up on the person being wronged and say sh like "just peace". It's bulls in the wrong and it up" and "do it to keep the used to protect people obviously per

Solstice Whisper OP. 1d For those asking, I tried to get more details from my brother, but all he said was that his fiancée "doesn't vibe" with my partner. Apparently, she thinks he's too quiet and that he's "judging her," which is ridiculous because he's just shy around new people. My partner has no issue with her and has always been polite, so this feels completely out of nowhere.

I'm also not the only one who feels weird about this. My sister, who's closer to the fiancée, told me she thinks the whole thing is overblown, but she doesn't want to get involved. My dad is staying neutral, as always, and my mom is just trying to smooth things over, but I feel like I'm being gaslit into thinking I'm the problem here. Am I really supposed to just go without my partner and act like this isn't a big deal? ... Reply 804

LunaTaurusTide • 1d "Doesn't vibe" is a flimsy excuse to uninvite someone from a wedding, especially a long-term partner. It's disrespectful to both you and your partner. 637

Dry_Ask5493.1d I would tell your mom to redirect her gaslighting and peace keeping towards your brother and his judgmental AH of a fiancée. I would also point out that you shouldn't attend the wedding because now that his fiancée has shown her whole a then there is no way you can bring good vibes to someone that s ks. 181

seeker0321 • 1d Family bonds work both ways, if they can't accept your partner then you must not accept your brother's. When u accepted your lady as your partner then she is part of the family and she deserve equal respect like everyone in family. This is totally insulting and u must not tolerate this at all. That will be disrespectful to her by u. Reply 129

sanguinepsychologist. 1d The SIL here seems to forget that what goes around, comes around. When she's as excluded from future family events as OP's partner has been, she might begin to understand. Dr û 7 ♡
